The Making of a Giant Interactive Bear!

Making a simple interaction that created a childlike sense of wonder was the goal for Red Paper Heart’s Hug Party, an ongoing installation that encourages people to run and jump on a giant stuffed bear named Marvin. Landing on Marvin causes a flourish of animations to play up and around him. The harder you land, the happier the animations. It’s difficult to leave without a huge smile on your face. Sometimes crazy ideas can be real and really fun. Daniel Scheibel will tell you the story of Marvin, the process behind it and why it’s good to be in New York.

Born in Germany, Daniel now lives in New York City. As a co-founder of Red Paper Heart and former Sr Developer at Big Spaceship he plays with code for a living. Daniel studied Multimedia Design and Computer Science at the University of Applied Sciences in Augsburg. His dynamic understanding of interactive animations is coupled with an appreciation for quality design, no matter the medium. He is also an avid snowboarder.

Red Paper Heart is a small group of designers, artists and coders based in Brooklyn, NY who work together with a common interest in combining interactivity and animation. They are passionate about finding ways to connect objects, spaces and people to create fun, honest experiences.
