John Vines

John Vines is an interaction designer and Knowledge Exchange Associate at Culture Lab, Newcastle University. Whilst his training is in design, his research encompasses social and cognitive science, gerontology, and digital art. Much of his work explores ways in which the values of groups who are typically disenfranchised from participating in the digital economy might be better supported. This is powerfully displayed in one recent project where John and colleagues worked at length with groups of ladies aged over eighty – groups that became motivated to actively question the decisions the banking industry make on their behalf, and participated in the design of new payment systems that embodied what is valuable to them.
